PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --Two people are in critical condition, including a 9-year-old girl, and two others were injured after a crash in Charlotte County Sunday evening.

It happened at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Toledo Blade Boulevard at 6:15 p.m.

Florida Highway Patrol says an SUV was traveling northbound on Toledo Blade Boulevard and attempted to turn left onto U.S. 41 just as a southbound SUV was going straight through the intersection.

As a result, the southbound SUV hit the passenger side of the SUV turning left.

The driver of the SUV turning left, 51-year-old Marry Sorrentino of North Port, suffered minor injury.  However, a 9-year-old girl riding in the car was critically injured and taken to Tampa General.

A 71-year-old passenger in the other SUV was also critically injured and taken to Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg.  The driver of that SUV, 73-year-old Henry Phillips of Port Charlotte, suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending.
