Friday is the last day to donate to Fox 4's "If you give a child a book…" Campaign.

Fox 4 is owned by E.W. Scripps, and every year for "National Reading Day," our company's charitable organization, the Scripps Howard Foundation, commits to raising money to put books in the hands of kids in need.

Studies show kids who grow up with books in their homes have a major advantage over children who do not. "National Reading Day" is in January, but Fox 4 has been raising money now to make sure these kids get the books they need and deserve.

Fox 4 has outlined several reasons to donate to this campaign:

  • It helps children in Southwest Florida get a book of their own
  • It helps children learn how to read
  • Reading lays the foundation for a child's future
  • Before the age of one, babies are laying the framework for the rest of their education by learning the process of reading
  • Books provide an escape for children facing daily battles
  • Some families in Southwest Florida can't afford to give their child a book

We want to help as many children as possible but can't do it without your help.

"When you see how happy and excited the kids are to actually receive a book that's going to belong to them, be the reason and make the difference for a kid's life. Any little bit helps," Franklin Park Elementary School teacher Brie Babyak said.
