HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. -- The family of Alberta Harris, who was last seen April 9th, said authorities called to tell them a body was found in rural Hendry County, possibly Harris's.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating a wooded area off Wheeler Road and 14th Place in Labelle.
Neighbors said detectives showed up Wednesday night and began investigating.
Once the scene was cleared, our crew got a closer look at the desolate area with nothing but trees, a murky canal, and shotgun shells scattered in the dirt.
Neighbors told Four in Your Corner people in golf carts and off-road vehicles drive through the area, and wouldn't be surprised if that's how the body was found.
Just three days after Harris was last seen, her car was found in the Fleamasters parking lot off MLK Boulevard with a shattered driver's side window and blood inside.
Fox 4 learned detectives recently reviewed surveillance video from the 7-Eleven on Joel Boulevard in Lehigh Acres in connection with Harris's disappearance.
Harris's daughter Ebony Freeman said the family is hanging in there after the call about the body.
Law enforcement has not confirmed the body is that of Alberta Harris.
