EAST NAPLES, Fla. -- One woman is dead and another was injured in connection with a shooting in East Naples, early Sunday morning.
Collier County Deputies arrested Carlos Ruben Rodriguez, 24, in connection with the shooting. According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, around 1 A.M., he allegedly shot at two women in the parking lot of the Break Time Lounge, located at 4630 Gulf Steam Drive. One of those women was treated on scene, sustaining minor injuries. The other woman, 24-year-old Kelsey Engelsen, was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. "Yesterday all I heard when I was standing at my door was a lot of gun shots, like about five probably," said a witness.
Rodriguez fled the scene and then barricaded himself inside a Paradise Inn of Naples where he was living, deputies said. After a few hours of attempting to coax him out, a SWAT team was able to get him out. A motive is unclear at this time, but deputies say there was an argument between several people, including Rodriguez at the bar.
Neighbors told Fox 4 the neighborhood is usually very quiet, except when it comes to the bar. Many feel it is out of place in the area. "It makes no sense for a bar to be in a residential area, especially like this. There are kids, there are families, I don't know. I don't like the bar there honestly, I don't," said Emily Castillo.
Rodriguez is in custody and is being charged with murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Engelsen leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter. Her family has set up a GoFundMe account to cover funeral expenses. To donate, you can click here: https://www.gofundme.com/x3pgseww-kelsey-engelsen
