FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Community members came together for the NAACP's Freedom Fund dinner on Saturday night.

The theme of the event was “Helping every student reach their highest potential, regardless of race.”

Community members from various organizations and departments from across the county attended the event including some from the Fort Myers Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lee County School Board.

The Branch President of Lee County said spoke it was nice to see the community come together in hopes of a better future.

“We have different views on things and different ideas of how realities can be," said Branch President James Muwakkil. "Yet one day a year we can get together and get past all of our differences and bring people together.”

Muwakkil said he hopes everyone walked away from the event knowing one thing—no matter our differences, we can still come together.
