CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Charlotte County deputies are warning you of a new scam targeting family members of those recently bonded out of jail.
Officials say the scammers are calling family members, claiming more money is needed for the bond, or the arrested person will go to jail. To avoid going to jail, the scammers are demanding the families load up money on gift cards and send them the card number.
Anyone who receives a call like this, or know someone who has, is urged to call the bail bonds supplier directly to verify that more money is needed.
