FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A community is left shocked and shaken after bullets fly in what they consider a quiet Lee County neighborhood. Deputies are searching for suspects after a home and several trees were shot up Tuesday morning.

Deputies say it happened inside the Danforth Lake community off Daniels Parkway and Palomino Lane, in the 8900 block of Fawn Ridge Drive.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in all of this.

Just about everyone who lives inside the homes within the neighborhood knows each other.  Which makes it all the more surprising to see people checking their homes and cars for bullet holes after the early morning shooting.

"I heard gunfire, like 3:50 in the morning, and woke me up immediately. It was ‘pop, pop, pop’…I jumped out of bed and was alarmed,” says resident Ray Chalmers.

12 shell casings were reportedly located on the ground.

After talking with neighbors and seeing where each of the shots landed, we could see why they're now on high alert.

“I just knew that there was somebody was shooting, they were right here in front of our house.  They were most likely on foot, just because of where the shell casings were, and who knows, we have no idea what’s going on.”

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is looking into what happened.  And those living there are looking into making security improvements immediately.

“We need some cameras, and obviously I think we'll be putting some up…absolutely.”

Neighbors say the home that was shot up is actually vacant, so there's no word if the surveillance cameras that are installed outside the home were working when the shooting happened.
