LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Area schools have plans to protect students during next week's solar eclipse, which will be taking place largely during school hours.

Lee and Collier county school districts have no plans to adjust dismissal times, but they will be moving all scheduled outdoor activities indoors while the eclipse is taking place, from approximately 1:15pm-4:20pm.

Students who must go outside for class changes will be kept indoors during this time.

There may be some delays in student pickups and bus loading, due to extra precautions.

These precautions are to protect students from eye damage and blindness, which can occur if one looks directly at the sun.

Students with signed permission slips will be permitted to participate in any organized eclipse viewings.
