Hunting accident takes the life of fire captain

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Fire Official in Bonita Springs are mourning the tragic loss of one of their own.

Captain Paul Phillips has died due to injuries sustained in a hunting accident in Charlotte County Sunday.

Phillips was a training captain for the Bonita Springs Fire Control & Rescue District.

After 11 years with the District, Phillips was set to retire at the end of the month. 

In a posting on Facebook by the Fort Myers Fire Academy, Phillips is described as one of its finest instructors.

An ongoing investigation into the details surrounding this tragic accident is being conducted by the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Memorial services have yet to be arranged.
