Brush fire reported in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (UPDATE) -- As of 6:00 p.m. the fire has been contained. The Florida Forest Service and Charlotte County Fire and EMS will remain on scene for a while longer. 

The contained fire is expected to produce some smoke and with a wind change, the smoke will blow East into the Port Charlotte area. 

No structures are threatened and no evacuations or injuries at this time. The size of the fire remains around 4 acres. 


PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Charlotte Count Fire and EMS are responding to a brush fire near Rampart Boulevard. 

Firefighters en route to the scene sighted a large column of smoke and found a large brush fire in a field behind a church after arriving. 

No structures are endangered at this time, firefighters estimate the fire is 4 acres or less. Fire engines are unable to access the fire, but Charlotte County has two of their brush trucks on scene containing the fire until the arrival of the Florida Forest Service tractors.
