FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- Authorities are investigating a dead body found in the water Tuesday morning.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has confirmed a body was in the canal on the bay side of the island near 2545 Estero Boulevard, that's near the Topps Supermarket.
Deputies are on scene and the Major Crimes Unit is en route.
UPDATE (4pm) -- Investigators have determined that this death was not suspicious.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Steven Barnes, a known transient in the Fort Myers Beach area. His death has been ruled a drowning.
