Hurricane Harvey made landfall along the Texas coast between Port Aransas and Port O'Connor on Friday night just after 11 PM Eastern Time. The storm continues to move inland as of Saturday morning bringing locally heavy rainfall, hurricane force winds, and significant storm surge to the middle and parts of the upper Texas coast. Isolated tornadoes have been reported in the outer bands well away from the center near the Houston Metro Area. Extensive damage has been reported across the Texas Coast.
The storm has been slowing down in forward speed and will likely stall in the Texas Hill Country during the day Saturday before drifting back toward the south on Sunday into Monday. This slow forward speed will lead to potentially catastrophic inland flooding across southeast Texas and a prolonged period of strong winds. A persistent onshore flow on the east side of the storm will continue to pile in water from the Gulf leading to an extended period of storm surge along the middle and upper Texas Coast.
Harvey will likely take DAYS to leave the state of Texas with the potential for up to 40" of rainfall in some areas before the storm leaves the region by the middle of next week.
