Hurricane Humberto is now a Category 2 Hurricane

UPDATE 9/17/19 8AM

In the intermediate advisory at 8AM the National Hurricane Center has upgraded Humberto to a Category 2 Storm with winds of 100mph with gusts of 115mph as it moves ENE at 8mph.

UPDATE 9/17/19 5AM

Hurricane Humberto still has winds of 90 mph with gusts of 115mph as it moves ENE at 8mph away from the Southeast coastline. The storm is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 later today or early Wednesday. Humberto will impact Bermuda overnight Wednesday into Thursday before picking up speed and racing into the North Atlantic.

Humberto remains a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 85 mph with gusts of 105 mph moving northeast at 5mph. The storm is 760 miles west of Bermuda. Humberto is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 storms early tomorrow as it picks up speed over the Atlantic.

Humberto is a strong tropical storm and should become a hurricane later tonight or early Monday. It is moving to the north and is expected to turn to the east Monday and move away from the United States. Humberto could become a Category 2 storm by the middle of the week and impact Bermuda.

Hurricane hunters have found Humberto stronger this afternoon with winds up to 50 mph. Further strengthening is expected through today and tomorrow and Humberto could become a hurricane by Monday as it pulls away from the U.S. East coast. NO IMPACTS are expected here in SWFL.

The system over the Bahamas is now Tropical Depression Nine with 30mph winds moving NW at 8mph. A weak circulation has been found. It is expected to become Tropical Storm Humberto by tomorrow. The latest track takes it farther east & away from the FL coast.

The system continues to look better organized this afternoon & we may have a depression or tropical storm by later tonight. The latest track has moved a little to the east which could keep it offshore from Florida's east coast. Impacts should be minimal for SW FL. But, there is still uncertainty. The next update will be at 5pm.

No significant changes in the intermediate advisory. This system regardless of strength will give Southwest Florida a better chance of showers and storm. Breezy conditions will be around for the next few days with a 60% chance of rain through Saturday.

The National Hurricane Center is watching an area of disturbed weather over the SE Bahamas as it is expected to become Tropical Storm Humberto in the next 24hrs. The track of this developing system will keep the heaviest rain and winds away from Southwest Florida as it moves through the NW Bahamas and north of the east coast of Florida. This will give Southwest Florida breezy conditions the next few days with a 60% chance of rain through Saturday.

Looks like we will have Tropical Storm Humberto along the Florida east coast by Saturday. The system is becoming better organized & should start moving NW at a faster pace late tomorrow night into Saturday. Trent will have the latest info on Fox4 i the morning.

UPDATE 9/12/19 7 PM

The cluster of storms over the SE Bahamas are showing signs of better organization. There is no circulation detected yet but NHC is now calling it Potential Tropical Cyclone 9. It is being sheared by an upper low over the Gulf now but it will eventually move into more favorable conditions. Most of the models are taking it northward toward the NW Bahamas on Friday & then northward off the FL NE coast over the weekend. Impacts will be stronger along the east coast but we'll see gusty winds & increased rain chances here in SW FL. Stay alert for changes.

UPDATE 9/12/19 6 AM

A trough of low pressure just to our east sitting over the SE Bahamas has a 80% chance of developing in the next 5 days. There is a chance of this trough becoming a Tropical Depression or a Tropical Storm as early as this Friday near South Florida. Environmental conditions will become more favorable as it moves west-northwest towards Florida in the days ahead. This will bring our rain chance way up starting Friday into the upcoming weekend. At this point, gusty winds and rain should be the impacts for our area into the weekend.

Widespread showers extend along a trough located near the southeastern Bahamas now have a 50% chance of tropical development over the next 2 days. By the weekend wind shear will be a bit less which leads to a higher probability of development at 70% over the next 5 days. This system is expected to move to the northwest and provide an extra cloudy weekend with morning and afternoon showers and storms as well as gusty wind to SWFL. This wave could become a depression before moving into Florida, but has a better chance of becoming a tropical storm when it emerges into the Gulf of Mexico late Sunday into Monday.

A tropical wave is located along a surface trough near eastern Cuba and the southeast Bahamas and is expected to move WNW over the next few days. Conditions will become more favorable by the end of the week and a tropical depression could form in the next couple of days as it moves toward south Florida. Further development could occur as the system emerges into the eastern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. This disturbance is likely to produce heavy rain and gusty wind across the southern portion of Florida this weekend.
