Charlotte County awarded $1.3 million in FEMA emergency generator money

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Charlotte County will receive nearly $1.3 million in federal grant money to purchase 14 stationary and 10 portable emergency generators to help keep the county sewage system operational during emergencies.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) has approved $1,253,979 to help fund the installation of backup power generators throughout Charlotte County.

These generators will be used to prevent service interruptions at high-flow sewage pumping stations following severe storm events.

Hurricane WATCH
An announcement that hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are possible somewhere within the specified coastal area. A hurricane watch is issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical storm-force winds.

Hurricane WARNING
An announcement that hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are expected somewhere within the specified coastal area. A hurricane warning is issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical-storm-force winds
