Large flames in Lehigh Acres cause evacuations - SR 82 back open

UPDATE - As of Sunday evening, the Florida Forestry Service reports there are still two separate fires in Lehigh Acres, according to the Caloosahatchee Forestry Center.

Incident 1 : 196 acres is 100% contained. Incident 2 : 202 acres is 85% contained.

Six homes are reportedly damaged due to the fire.

Due to poor visibility in the area and the close proximity of the fire, State Road 82 was closed but has since reopened.

UPDATE - Homes in Lehigh are being evacuated due to the brush fire.

At this time SR 82 will be shut down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Crews responded to multiple brush fires in Lehigh Acres on Sunday.

The fire occurred near the intersection of Amigo Street East and Jopanica Avenue South. At this time the 8 acre fire is 100% contained and sources tell us no houses are threatened.

The second fire is occurring in the area of Cane Street East to Chemstrand Steet East. There is a possibility that structures nearby are threatened.

The Caloosahatchee Forestry Center tweeted that residents can go to Veterans Park until further notice.

At this time, it is unclear what caused both fires.
