We know many of you are starting the new year off to a healthy start!

This morning on FOX 4 Morning News, we talked to one local chef who gave us a few tips that can help you!

Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie

This smoothie is not only delicious, it's also perfectly designed to include five key ingredients that work together in synergy to pull heavy metals like mercury, lead, aluminum, nickel, copper, and cadmium out of your organs where they accumulate. Drink this smoothie daily for optimal benefits.

Ingredients:

• 2 frozen bananas!

• 2 cups wild blueberries

•1 cup of moringa leafs !

• 1 cup cilantro !

• 1 cup orange juice ( optional)

• 1 tsp Barley Grass Juice Extract powder !

• 1 tsp Hawaiian Spirulina !

• 1 teaspoon chia seed!

• Optional:coconut milk

Directions:

In a high speed blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. If a thinner consistency is desired, Enjoy!

Quinoa with Vegetables and Watermelon By Chef Daniela

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup corn
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onions, chopped
  • 1/2 brocoli
  • 1 cup of watermelon

Directions

Bring the quinoa, water, and 1 pinch of salt to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the quinoa is tender, about 20 minutes. Once done, drain a mesh strainer, and set aside.

Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the garlic, and cook until the garlic softens and the aroma mellows, about 2 minutes. Add the onion red pepper, and corn, and broccoli continue cooking until the pepper and broccoli softens, about 10 minutes. Season with cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper, and cook for 1 minute more, then stir in the cooked quinoa and green onions. Add the watermelon. Serve hot or cold.

If you serve it cold you can add some lemon or balsamic vinegar.
