LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lee County mom is voicing her frustration after she says she's constantly having issues with her kids' school bus.
From no-shows in the morning to showing up late, she says she's had enough.
"No parent should have to feel like this," said Nema Derosette.
Derosette's 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter have been riding the school bus to and from Allen Parkway Elementary since the beginning of the school year, but she says it's been a rough road.
"Since we moved here in mid-November, this is probably my 20th to 25th incident that I've had with them," said Derosette.
Derosette says the problems started even before moving to their new home along Daniels Parkway in November.
"The kids were supposed to be let off, not this bus stop but at their previous bus stop, at 4:20 p.m., by 5:30 p.m. I still couldn't find my kids," said Derosette.
In a panic, Derosette says she ended up calling 911 to help locate her children until finally being able to get in contact with the School District of Lee County.
"When that happened, they told me my kids were never lost because they technically didn't get off the bus," said Derosette.
The latest incident happening Wednesday morning, when Derosette says the bus showed up nearly an hour late.
Derosette says the inconsistent pickup and dropoff times have made it hard for her to coordinate her kids' arrival with her work schedule.
"I've had to go get my 9-year-old a cellphone because of security; I can't trust the school system, the transportation system," said Derosette.
Fox 4 took Derosette's concerns to the school district. A spokesperson said Wednesday's delay was due to a substitute driver who was unfamiliar with the route, adding bus drivers are in high demand but short supply.
The district says unfortunately when they use substitutes this can happen, apologizing for the inconvenience.
But Derosette says she wants more to be done after dealing with these issues for months.
"I want accountability; I want them to do what they are responsible to do, which is pick the kids up in a timely manner, show up every day," said Derosette.
The district says transportation has supervised the bus' route and found the driver was following all protocols, but Derosette says she only saw transportation staff at the bus stop one day.
