LEE COUNTY, Fla. — St. Matthew’s House has fed just over 25,000 families in the first two months of the year, putting it on pace to feed over 150,000 families in 2021, and shattering last year’s record of over 86,000 families fed.

St. Matthew's fed more than 12,000 families in February as the need for food continues to grow in Southwest Florida.

There will be seven food distributions next week to kick off the month of March.

It takes a lot of work to pre-pack the tens of thousands of boxes of food needed to feed all of Southwest Florida families on a monthly basis. Each family, on average, gets about $136 worth of food when they come through the distribution lines.

Volunteers at the organization's warehouse play a huge role in food distribution. They pack thousands of pounds of food a day, Monday thru Friday, at the warehouse that eventually make it out to the food distribution lines and finally into the homes of the families in need.

One of those volunteers working hard each week at the warehouse is Barb Siniscalchi. We talked to Barb recently about her volunteer work at St. Matthew’s and what it means to her to play a small part in helping feed the hungry of Southwest Florida.
