FORT MYERS, Fla. — The need for foster families is growing in Florida, but the pandemic can make it tougher to recruit good homes.

The National Youth Advocate Program says there’s approximately 450 kids in foster care in Southwest Florida.

In this segment, NYAP explains how the coronavirus has added more challenges to the services they provide for foster families.

The program provides training and resources to families and offers therapeutic support to foster children.

“If you have an open heart and an open home, where a child is a child at the end of the day, that’s the biggest need that we have,” said Wilma Davilus, with NYAP.
