LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County School Board will meet today to talk about the coronavirus.

The school board will work on creating a process for testing students and staff who have symptoms.

According to a draft, a student with symptoms is sent to an isolation room. A nurse or clinic assistant will then evaluate the student. The student will be assessed for high or low-risk symptoms. If the criteria are met, the child’s parents are called to pick the child up, and they are then offered a covid test.

If the parent decides they want a test, they will speak with a Golisano’s covid response team member, and they would meet the parent at the school to fill out a testing waiver.

The test is then performed with the parent present.

If the child is negative or positive, they would still need to quarantine regardless. If the child is positive, the Florida Department of Health is notified, and the contract tracing process will begin.

The board meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm today.
