PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Local artists and craftspeople in Southwest Florida are hoping their businesses rebound in 2021.

Koucky Studios makes several handcrafted items, like pottery, wood turned pens, and cigar box guitars.

Last year, many local art galleries and fairs they used to sell their work got shut down to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

They say their sales over the holidays weren’t nearly the same as before the pandemic.

The husband and wife team, Chuck and Nancy Koucky, say one of the biggest helps have been the weekly open-air markets around Southwest Florida, like Burnt Store Marina.

“Last year was lonely at times, but I’m looking forward to a much better year where I’m back to seeing the people and being able to get close to them when I’m telling them about the pieces,” said Nancy, a woodturner.

This year, she says they’ve decided to start their own website and online shop to help bring in more customers.
