FORT MYERS, Fla-- More than 100 turkeys were handed out to families at The Boys & Girls Club in Renaissance Community Park on Saturday afternoon. It's part of an annual event that offers families in the area a day of fun that includes a meal, bounce houses, live music and this year free basketball lessons.

"Kids really need to be inspired and empowered by somebody in their community," said Hoops on Mission founder, Dwayne Jackson.

Jackson offered a free basketball camp to the local boys and girls part of the annual "Friendsgiving" event at Renaissance Community Park. Jackson is from the Fort Myers area and started the organization after his love for basketball took him all the way to NBA tryouts, but after deciding to come back home he started Hoops on Mission.

"Hoops on Mission is very involved in this community weekly, we do bible studies and we feed this community every week," said Jackson.

Dozens of families showed up to the event and at the end of the day were able to take home a turkey to enjoy on Thanksgiving.
