Still many questions in double shooting deaths in Naples

Almost a week after a shooting left two men dead in Naples, many questions remain about what led to the deaths.

Police say that the bodies of Xavier Sierra, 18, and John Vargas, 29, were found last Thursday in a wooded area off of Goodlette-Frank Road near a medical office park called the Commons.

James Boggs, who describes Xavier Sierra as one of his best friends, told Fox 4 that Sierra had just graduated from high school and was looking for a job.

"Actually he was on his way to an interview, and he got done with the interview," Boggs said of the day Sierra's body was found. "After that he went to go help somebody move, and that's the last thing we heard until his grandmother called and said he was dead."

Police found the bodies of the men when they searched the area after reports of gunshots. After almost a week of investigating, detectives say they believe Sierra and Vargas knew each other, and that the deaths may have resulted from an argument between the two.

In a statement released Wednesday, Naples Police Department spokesman Lt. Seth Finman wrote, "Naples crime scene investigators and detectives are in the process of collecting and processing evidence linked to this homicide investigation. Police have no reason to believe that any present threat to the community exists in regard to this isolated incident."

At a vigil for Sierra Tuesday night, friends were still stunned over his death.

"It's crazy how certain people lose their lives over certain things," Boggs said.

Very little is known yet about the background of John Vargas.

Sierra's funeral takes place Thursday evening.
