WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTXL) — In a video posted to his Twitter account Friday night, Sen. Marco Rubio compared the protests from last summer to the Washington riots that happened on Wednesday.

Most of the protests during the summer of 2020 were involving Black Lives Matter and those standing against police brutality, with some happening in Washington in May and June.

In the first few seconds of the video, Sen. Rubio took the time to condemn the riots that occurred in Washington this past week.

"The events we saw this week should sicken every single one of us, mob violence of the kind that you see in third world countries happened not just in America, but in your Capitol building," said Sen. Rubio. "I don't care what hat they wear, I don't care what banner they are carrying, riots should be rejected by everyone, every single time. "

While Sen. Rubio condemned rioting in all aspects, he accused Democrats of having a "double standard."

"Now are the left hypocrites? Absolutely," said Sen. Rubio. "I remember what they are now calling 'insurrection' they were justifying just this summer."

Sen. Rubio then went on to say that the mainstream media were '100 percent' biased and said that the bias in the media is the reason why people are taking "political shelter" in conspiracy theories and the like.

"We cannot let our anger about all that stuff turn us into them," said. Sen. Rubio.

The senator from Florida also claimed in the video that not everyone at the Capitol was a member of the mob.

"99 percent of the people who came here had nothing to do with that mob, nothing," said Sen. Rubio. "But one percent of tens of thousands of people is a lot of people. It's enough to inflict damage on buildings and enough to do even more damage to our country."

Sen. Rubio then said that those in the mob were believers in conspiracy theories and lies told by politicians that Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the election.

To close the video, Sen. Rubio reiterated his belief that a period of reflection needs to happen in the Republican party because the country "needs a viable, attractive alternative to the agenda of the radical left."
