ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in central Florida say a man threatening to kill himself is dead after he exchanged gunfire with sheriff's deputies during a standoff.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputies responded Monday night to reports of a 38-year-old suicidal man in Ormond Beach.

The sheriff's office says the unidentified man had multiple guns inside the home, and that his wife and three children between the ages of 2 and 14 were also inside the house.

The man's wife and two younger children managed to get out of the house and were not injured. The 14-year-old was also not injured.

The sheriff's office says the man opened fire on deputies, who returned fire.

The office says it's unclear whether the man shot himself or was struck by deputies' gunfire.
