LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Eight people in a Lee Tran bus were injured Friday morning when troopers say a car rear-ended the bus.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on Lee Boulevard near the Walmart Supercenter.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an eastbound bus was stopped in the right lane at a bus stop when the driver of a car traveling behind the bus failed to notice it was stopped.

The driver started to swerve left to avoid the bus but was unsuccessful.  The car hit the left rear end of the bus and also hit a pickup truck driving in the center lane of the roadway.

The driver of the bus and seven passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.

A passenger in the pickup truck also had a minor injury.

The car's driver, 32-year-old Matthew Brown of Lehigh Acres, suffered a minor injury as well and was taken to Lehigh Regional.  He has been cited for careless driving.
