PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Charlotte County shoppers and police were on high alert overnight after a bomb threat at a Walmart shut the store down for hours.

The threat came in at the Walmart on Taylor Road and Jones Loop Road in Punta Gorda.

The store is now back open.

Late Thursday night Charlotte County deputies and firemen searched the building and surrounding area.  After approximately 2 and a half hours of searching the interior and exterior of the store, authorities say they found nothing suspicious.

This all started after management at the store received a phone call from an unknown person stating he or she placed a bomb in the store.  Everyone evacuated the store, and those living in the area were told to avoid the area for several hours.

Again, the store is back open for business after nothing suspicious has been found inside or outside the Walmart.
