CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- We all know as Floridians that you should never take air conditioning for granted. And when a Cape Coral man who was left paralyzed from a motorcycle accident desperately needed some cool air, some of Southwest Florida's best stepped in.

It's not every day a parade of strangers march outside Robert Ryan's home.  But with trucks in tow, this isn't just any day on the job for this group.

They're anxiously waiting to surprise Robert with a gift he's been needing for years.

Robert was in a terrible motorcycle accident 16 years ago. The accident left him as a quadriplegic without any hope of walking again.  “Originally he wasn't able to do anything,” says his mom, Christine Huffman.

He now lives by himself, and when his air conditioner went out, he couldn't afford to replace it.

That's when Builders Care answered the call...and called a friend, who called a friend, to help Robert out.

And before Robert woke up, they told his mom about their little secret.  "When I saw the level of discomfort, I knew we were going to fix it.  And that's what these guys are going to do today,” said Charles Thornton of Ferguson AC.

So after yet another restless night for Robert, these angels in disguise gave him the good news.

"Definitely make me feel a lot more comfortable, because I have a hard time sleeping because not being able to cool off at night," says Robert.

"It's about giving back.  When you see someone in need and we're able to do it, it feels good,” says Thornton.

"I'm very appreciative, and I can't thank them enough for everything they're doing for me," says Robert.
