ROME (AP) — President Joe Biden arrived in Rome early Friday morning.

Biden and first lady Jill Biden will meet with the pope later in the day. The meeting holds special significance for Biden, who is Catholic.

The visit with the pope is part of an extended European trip for Biden.

He will also take part in a Group of 20 summit and later travel to Scotland for talks on stopping a global pandemic, boosting economic growth and halting the acceleration of climate change.

But it could be harder to get the world to commit to Biden's stated goals if Americans refuse to fully embrace them.

Biden's Build Back Better agenda is still in limbo. There is no official agreement from members in his own party, who have also
refused to vote on a bipartisan infrastructure bill.
