FORT MYERS, FLa.- A Fort Myers man has been arrested in connection to several storage shed break-ins throughout a golf course community.
Forty-year-old Robert Wermuth was arrested and charged with burglary and grand theft after he stole shop vacs, golf clubs, tools, tool boxes, fishing poles, hedge trimmers, an electric Razor scooter and other miscellaneous items from his neighbors at the Club at Crystal Lakes apartments.
"Most, about all neighbors are real nice people we have here," 12-year-resident Gerald Miller. "Just one bad apple," he continued.
He calls Wermuth that bad apple after the rash of break-ins.
"I'm not very happy with him at all. Very, very disturbing," Miller said.
Gerald said Wermuth stole his nice air compressor, a toolbox filled with tools, and three fishing rods right out of his storage shed.
Miller's neighbor Tony Woods said he's heard similar stories from other neighbors.
"These storage shed doors, unless you have a deadbolt, they're easy to get into," Woods said.
Miller said he's not taking any more chances.
"He caused me to spend $60 I hadn't planned on spending! Put a deadbolt on my door," he said.
Neighbors said Wermuth's parents, who also live in the neighborhood, bailed him out of jail after his arrest, but he's back behind bars, charged with a separate crime he committed in the Gateway community.
We've reached out to the Lee County Sheriff's Office to confirm this, but have not heard back.
