CAPE CORAL, Fla. — "Our path forward", was the message for today's virtual rally hosted by the Women’s March of Fort Myers, Florida, hoping to encourage viewers to move forward from the troubling year of 2020.

“Regardless of party affiliation, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation or color, or creed, regardless of our immigration status, that we could come together and talk about the issues that affect our community the most,” said Annisa Karim, Board member for Women’s March Fort Myers.

Due to the pandemic speakers and musical guests came together on a united front via Zoom. The topics ran the gamut, political and social unrest, Coronavirus & healthcare, equal rights, and others.

Part of the discussion became a call to action to get our younger generation prepared for the future. Connie Bennett Martin, a board member for the Women’s March in Fort Myers says, especially since they're getting doomed and gloomed left and right lately.

“Taking political action and being involved, and it’s important for us to take our young girls and even our young boys, but to take them to legislative meetings, and community civic meetings, and show them they can be empowered too,” said Connie Bennett Martin, a board member for the Women’s March in Fort Myers

As for the racial tension and injustices in 2020, community activist Chantel Rhodes says moving forward, it's about justice, not just us.

“So understanding what the world is going through and how you can help other people definitely helps shape the outcome of your situation,” said Chantel Rhodes, community activist.

Today's rally also had the reminder moment, that women and supporters of women’s right to march must make changes within themselves, the communities of Southwest Florida, and beyond.

“Women are starting to more and more run for local office. They’re starting to become leaders in their community and I can only say it’s just about time,” said Rhodes.
