UPDATE (8/2) -- A North Fort Myers man is charged with killing his wife, just ten days after being charged with battery and ordered to stay away from her.

58-year-old Michael Newhouse is being held in the Osceola County Jail, awaiting transfer to Lee County on a 2nd Degree Murder charge.

His wife of 15 years, 51-year-old Tina Newhouse, was found dead at their North Fort Myers home July 31st.

According to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were called to the same home on July 21st, when Tina called to report that somebody had hit her.  Further investigation revealed that the couple had been in an argument, during which Tina threw a cell phone at Michael, but did not hit him.

Michael, who deputies say had a strong smell of alcohol and slurred speech, admitted that he picked the phone up and threw it back at Tina, hitting her in the face.

Michael was charged with Battery and ordered to have no contact with Tina and their home as a condition of his release on bond.
