WEEKEND BEACH GUIDE: Where to go to avoid red tide

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla., - Planning to head to the beach this weekend? Depending where you go, you may find yourself doing more coughing than relaxing.

People have been reporting respiratory irritation all week across Southwest Florida beaches.

So where can you go to still enjoy a nice beach day this weekend? 

Here’s a summary of red tide conditions this week based on the FWC map.

Stump Pass, high concentrations of red tide

Fort Myers Beach, very low concentrations of red tide 

Sanibel Island, very low concentrations of red tide

Lover’s Key, medium concentrations of red tide

Barefoot Beach, no red tide or just background levels

Vanderbilt Beach, no red tide or just background levels

Naples Pier, no red tide or just background levels

South Marco Beach, low concentrations of red tide 

 

Note: Respiratory irritation is still possible even at very low concentrations of red tide.
