Detectives are investigating a series of inappropriate messages sent to a child from a Charlotte County man, but say it's unclear if a crime has been committed.

As we reported Tuesday, the 10-year-old girl's mother posted the disturbing conversation on Facebook after coming across an inappropriate picture in her daughter's messages.

"I went on a message and there was a picture of a man's penis and I just felt sick," said Katie, the child's mother.

The mother says she then began messaging the man, posing as her 10 year-old daughter.

In the messages the man asks the child to take pictures of her body. In one message he says "I'll tell you exactly what I want you to do."

Another message shows the man asking the young girl to take a topless picture. "I want you to lift up your shirt and bra and take a picture." He reassures the child, saying "I promise, I won't tell."

She says "I don't have a bra. They're for older girls."

His response: "Then just lift up your shirt."

The man has not been charged with a crime yet. Investigators with the Charlotte County Sheriff's office say despite how disturbing the messages are it's not yet clear if a crime was committed.

"At this point in time there has been no crime committed and we can not release an identity of a suspect," said Thomas Conroy, Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer.

According to CCSO, the chest area is not considered a sexual organ under Florida law.

The young girl lives in the United Kingdom. Her mother says she's grateful she stepped in when she did. "I know that there have been previous chats so I was mortified. I thought, I have to tell the police about these messages."

CCSO investigators urge anyone who thinks the suspect contacted their child online to call the sheriff's office.
