Greater Naples Fire Commissioners were given a letter calling on them to fire Chief Kingman Schuldt shortly before Tuesday’s meeting.

Members said they need more time to consider the issue before making any decisions.

Schuldt came under fire in June for taking overtime during the 30th Avenue wildfires earlier this year.

Commissioners approved that overtime, which union members say is a violation of the chief’s contract.

Union representative Trenton Mading says frustration has been bubbling over for a while.

“They’ve not been happy for years, we tried our best to quell it, but it got to the point where they stopped coming to us.”

Some firefighters are also upset about faulty apparatus and several lawsuits slapped against the department.

“I hate to see what’s going on here, you got grievances, grieve it, but you come up here with a pile instead of taking it one step at a time,” said Commissioner Rob Boyer.

Commissioners say they will bring this letter to the board’s lawyers before taking any action.
