Unemployment numbers remain low throughout Southwest Florida

SOUTHWEST Fla. --- Governor Rick Scott made the announcement today that unemployment rates in Southwest Florida have dropped this past year. 

According to a press release from the governor's office, unemployment in Naples is as low as 4.1 percent while Fort Myers unemployment rate is 3.8 percent. In addition, the Fort Myers area has seen a 3,900 increase in new private-sector jobs in the past year. 

The industry with the highest job growth in Naples over the year was construction with 1,200 new jobs. In July, approximately 3,158 online job openings were posted in Naples, including 533 for high-skill, high-wage, STEM occupations. 

As of July, Florida's unemployment rate dropped to a low of 3.7 percent, the lowest since April 2007.
