Deputies arrest theft suspect after Uber driver saw a post on the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

26-year-old Scott Humbert was arrested for stealing jewelry from Lone Star Pawn in Port Charlotte, according to deputies.

According to the victim, Humbert arrived at Lone Star Pawn on November 6 and attempted to pawn a GoPro then left the business.

Later, store inventory revealed that three pieces of jewelry were missing from the counter display, the victim said.

The victim reviewed the store’s video surveillance footage and saw Humbert pry open the glass counter and remove the jewelry.

Detectives also reviewed the footage and saw Humbert arrived at the Pawn Shop as a passenger in a vehicle driven by an older male.

Deputies said that the male’s photo was posted on the CSO Facebook Page with a request to the public to assist in identifying both.

Within an hour of posting the photos, the older male contacted the sheriff’s office, advising he was a local Uber driver and had no involvement in any crime, deputies said.

He made contact with detectives and cooperated with the investigation. Through Uber records, the male removing the jewelry from the cases was identified as Scott Humbert, according to deputies.

Humbert was located by detectives, and charged with grand theft. He is now out on bond.
