FORT MYERS, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard jumped right into action after receiving a strange call about a dog lost at sea just off of Fort Myers beach Wednesday evening. Kevin Arariza and crew members immediately came to the rescue saying it wasn't what they expected.

“Definitely a different case but exhilarating for sure”, said Kevin Arariza.

Arariza says the rescue did not require any special techniques, he just reached in and pulled the dog to safety.

“Our boat driver is trained enough to where he was able to get close enough to the dog where we were able to just reach out and bring the dog onto board,” said Arariza.

Their primary mission was to rescue this furry guy without any incidents.

“That was our main worry to make sure he wasn’t hurt and to make sure he was okay, he was shooken up of course but he was doing good and luckily our training really helped us out,” said Arariza.

They were able to reunite him with his owner.

“The dog had a collar, so the people that were here on base called the vet office with the numbers that were on the collar. They were able to get the owners,” said Arariza.

Arariza says their mission was successfully accomplished

“It was just a fun really good experience to be able to help him out and the family out as well because obviously no one wants to lose their pet,” said Arariza.

Now, it's not exactly clear how this four-legged guy found himself stranded at sea. but as you can imagine his owners are thankful to have him back.
