President Trump’s 10 percent tariff may have unintended consequences on breweries.

The tariffs would affect imported steel and aluminum.  Breweries such as the Ft. Myers brewing company use aluminum to can its beer.

“We chose cans over bottles because the cans actually better for the beer than bottling,
it holds the flavor better,” said Co-owner Jen Gratz-Whyte.

Although not all of the aluminum used to make these cans is imported, even the slightest increase in cost could be passed down to the customer.

“Other breweries are estimating it at a about a penny a can, which doesn’t sound like much, but when you buy 200,000 cans at a time, it does add up."

Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Naples) signed onto a letter with 100 other mostly Republican Congressman urging the president to review how the tariffs affect small businesses.
