FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A 'touch-a-truck' event over the weekend in Fort Myers helped collect enough food donations to provide 800 meals from a local food bank.

The event on Saturday, hosted by Pediatric Dentristy of Florida, gave kids a hand-on chance to learn about their favorite trucks and vehicles. Featured vehicles included emergency service, law enforcement, military, public service, and local commercial businesses.

At the event, 1,138 pounds of food were donated for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

The food bank serves five counties in Southwest Florida: Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties. They rescue, inspect, transport and distribute donated food and other grocery products to more than 150 partner agencies that provide direct services to those in need.
