FORT MYERS, Fla. — Tuesday night, the Lee County School district will be holding a town hall meeting focusing on school bus safety.

The meeting is set to take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16th, starting at 6 pm at the district headquarters on Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.

Several parents are pushing for more safety measures after 8-year-old Layla Aiken was hit and killed at her bus stop last month.

Some parents expressed their concerns to Fox 4 about the lack of street lighting and sidewalks in the area.

Others said something needs to be done about people speeding near bus stops.

HOW TO WATCH

If you can’t make it to the meeting, you can participate at home. Parents can stream the meeting live on the district’s YouTube and Facebook accounts. If you have any questions for school leaders, just shoot them an email or write in the comment section on Facebook.

The district also says they will look at school choice as it relates to elementary schools.

Parents will be able to choose from the closest handful of schools from their home.
