COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Collier County Public Schools has seen an increase in homeless students during the pandemic.
They have approximately 793 students who have been experiencing homelessness, and the number is expected to grow.
District’s Liaison for Homeless Education Services, Hemi Kafle, works to connect these families with resources.
With the help of community partners, Kafle provides school supplies, hygiene kits, and school uniforms to students in need while also connecting families to resources that enable them to find permanent housing.
Temple Shalom has also stepped up to provide some of the basic needs for our homeless population.
Volunteers from Temple Shalom’s Men’s Club and Social Action Committee have been busy working with District staff to identify the needs and order supplies that would assist in offering families some of the necessities such as gas cards, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, school supplies, and more.
Representatives from the organization will be delivering these items to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center on Friday, February 5.
