CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The state of Florida has increased its fines for passing stopped school buses.

The state says the law applies "to vehicles passing stopped school buses on the side children enter or exit while the bus is stopped and displaying the stop signal."

The traffic fine for this offense was set at $200, but the fine has now increased to $400 for the first violation, the state says.

If drivers violate this law a second time, they could have their driver's license suspended, according to the state.
