A Lee County Sheriff's Office report says students skipped class at South Fort Myers High School to engage in sexual activity in the school's stairwell, and the school district didn't find out until a month later when a parent brought it to their attention.

South Fort Myers High School made national headlines in May of 2016 when an investigation revealed multiple football players had sex with a 15-year-old girl inside the school's bathroom.

"Since that incident, nothing has happened really," Sophomore Gipsy Bustos said.

At the time of that incident, parents demanded more supervision. Bustos said her parents didn't even want her to go to South Fort Myers High School when they heard what happened.

She said since then, students and staff have been working hard to repair the reputation at the school.

"We already had one incident and we don't want it to happen again," Bustos said.

An incident report said in December, two students skipped their classes to meet in the stairwell to engage in sexual activities. It wasn't until a parent found a conversation between students about this sexual encounter on an iPad that the district was even made aware of what happened.

Four in Your Corner reached out to the Lee County School District. A spokesperson said:

"School Administration took immediate action and the students were disciplined per the student code of conduct."

But that spokesperson never addressed Fox 4's question as to what staff are doing to prevent sexual activity on campus, given this is at least the second sex incident since May of 2016.

Bustos said since the bathroom incident, staff have installed more cameras at South Fort Myers High School and are checking the hallways during classes more frequently.
