FORT MYERS, Fla – The latest level three and level two travel warnings from the CDC have prompted some Florida universities to take action to protect students and employees, with two schools deciding to suspend some study abroad programs.
According to our sister station, WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton announced its exchange programs to China and South Korea have been suspended until further notice. Level three travel notices are in place there.
On Wednesday, the CDC also upgraded Italy and Iran to a level two travel warning.
Florida International University in Miami is suspending all study abroad programs and university travel to Italy, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. That will include Spring study abroad programs.
FIU is also asking students and employees who recently traveled to those countries, and to China, to quarantine themselves at home for 14 days.
