HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. -- A Southwest Florida teen was shot at a gas station in LaBelle over the weekend.

"It breaks my heart to hear that this happened," said Brent Kettler, who has lived in the area for a couple of years.

Several others who live near the Shell gas station on State Road 80 at Shady Oaks Avenue were shaken to hear the young man was shot in the face.

"It hurts, you hate to see something like that happen in any town," said Kettler.

One LaBelle mother says it hits a little closer to home because it could have just as easily been one of her own children.  "I have teenagers myself and I know they like to get out and they have no fear. They are just typical kids," said K.C. Lynn. "They think it is safe and they need to watch out for themselves," she added.

Some people who live near the shooting say they weren't surprised to hear about where the shooting happened. "It has always been kind of a sketchy location where you don't want your kids there and you have to be careful and watch your surroundings. If something was going to happen in LaBelle, that would be the place," said Lynn.

She makes sure her kids follow a strict curfew, so they don't find themselves in tight spots.

"I think bad is going to happen after midnight anyway. I try to keep them home early and watch where they go and make sure they have the buddy system," said Lynn.
