FORT MYERS, FLA — Sunday's Superbowl pick is pretty clear for the McMillers.
But these superfans aren't just bonded to the team by the love of the game. But also by blood.
"Sometimes I still have to pinch myself," said Nicole McMiller.
"We're so proud, we're happy," said James McMiller.
FOX 4 got a chance to sit down with the family of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins, ahead of his upcoming appearance in the Superbowl, for the second year in a row.
"We just told him, 'You guys got another shot' and I said 'I need you to go in there and give it everything you got.' And he was like 'I'm ready,'" said Nicole.
The group says they're confident he and his team will walk away with a win Sunday because they know how hard he's worked to get here, from injuries to passing the ACTs and more.
"Sammy's whole story has been adverse-filled. You're gonna face some adversity in life. Sammy's whole thing was to grind through it," said James.
But Watkins' family also says he's so much more than a wide receiver.
"It's more to the man than just football," said James.
For example, he's a big fan of his mom Nicole.
"He's definitely a mama's boy," she said, laughing.
And he's a goofball.
"Sammy is a very funny guy," said James.
Above all else, his family says he's someone who loves to give back. Whether it be through the Sammy Watkins foundation or through partnerships with his aunt Jacquelyn McMiller.
"The uplift foundation is the urban progressive leaders incubator foundation. It's designed to uplift the communities and the kids that grow up in these communities that really want to make a difference," she said.
During a week where he could be focusing on himself and preparing for the big game, Sammy is still finding a way to give back.
According to the Lee County School District says he'll be speaking to a group of South Fort Myers High School students, over zoom Tuesday afternoon.
The topics will range from sports and the Superbowl to entrepreneurship and leadership.
