Regional airports in Southwest Florida get FAA grants

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Airports across the U.S., including ones in Southwest Florida, are getting grants for construction projects to improve safety.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it will award $986 million to more than a dozen Florida airports.

Immokalee Regional Airport will get more than $210,000 for a taxiway extension project.

And Marco Island Executive Airport will get more than $645,000 to construct an aircraft parking area.

This is all part of a $3 billion grant for airport improvement programs.

A full list of Florida airports receiving a grant:

  • Avon Park Executive- $1,429,029 – grant funds will be used to rehabilitate Taxiway F and install taxiway lighting.
  • St Pete-Clearwater International- $19,746,344 – grant funds will be used to rehabilitate Runway 18-36.
  • Fort Lauderdale Executive- $5,205,625 – grant funds will be used to construct Taxiway F.
  • Gainesville Regional- $12,163,252 – grant funds will be used to expand the terminal building.
  • Immokalee Regional Airport–$210,209 – grant funds will be used on an extension project for Taxiway C.
  • Lakeland Linder International- $10,300,000 – grant funds will be used to strengthen Runway 9/27 and reconstruct runway lighting.
  • Lake Wales Municipal- $103,500 – grant funds will be used to rehabilitate an aircraft parking area and conduct a wildlife hazard assessment.
  • Marco Island Executive- $645,513 – grant funds will be used to construct an aircraft parking area.
  • Merritt Island–$2,821,828 – grant funds will ve used to rehabilitate Runway 11/29 and reconstruct aircraft parking area.
  • Orlando International Airport- $21,328,633 – grant funds will be used to rehabilitate Runway 18L-36R.
  • Ormond Beach International- $3,323,422 – grant funds will be used to install lighting on Runway 08-26 and extend Runway 9-27.
  • Northwest Florida Beaches- $10,574,373 – grant funds will be used to expand terminal building and construct taxiway and airport parking area.
  • Tallahassee International–$1,776,111 – grant funds will be used to expand the terminal building.
  • North Palm Beach County General Aviation–$743,198 – grant funds will be used to conduct an environmental study for Runway 14-32 expansion.
  • Palm Beach County Park- $600,000 – grant funds will be used to conduct a noise compatibility plan study.
  • Palm Beach International- $2.6 million – grant funds will be used to expand service road, rehabilitate terminal building, modify terminal building, and develop a sustainable management plan.
