FORT MYERS, Fla. — The founder of The Quality of Life Center, Abdul' Haq Muhammed, gathered Wednesday night with dozens of parents, teachers, and concerned members of the community to stratigize ways to move forward after Fort Myers city council approved budget cuts in 2020 on Monday.
The meeting focused on staying optimistic about the future, rather than focusing on negativity.
"I think as soon as we can shift our minds away from the hurtful experience, we're capable of imagining anything we hope to achieve," said Muhammed.
It included good news -- like brainstorming fundraising ideas for the community center.
"Whether it's wedding receptions or special events that will take place, we will be able to generate revenue as a result of that," said Muhammed
But it didn't end without bad news. It was announced that at least half of the center's 30 employees will soon be out of a job.
Community members made it very clear on Monday at the City Council meeting that the community based organizations will continue to stand together.
"We do not feel any ill will towards to the city. We're very happy that the STARS complex is getting additional dollars to do what they have to do. After all they are serving the same children as we've been serving in the community for many years." said Muhammed.
