STUART, Fla. — "Sometimes things go wrong," says Dana Carr, the President of the Florida International Air Show.

Unfortunately, that is what happened at the Stuart air show Friday afternoon. A pilot died in a plane crash.

A witness told our sister station, WPTV, it was upsetting to see.

"I was sitting there, and I saw a grey bomber fly down. Literally within seconds, he flew so far down," said the witness.

Officials said the air show family is a tight-knit bond.

"Our hearts reaches out to the family and friends of the gentlemen who lost his life in Vero Beach," said Carr.

At this time, it's unclear what caused the plane to go down in Stuart but officials said the air show business is built entirely around safety.

Carr said their pilots are also highly trained.

Both the pilots and planes obey strict FAA rules and requirements to ensure the safety of everyone at the air show.

This weekend, the Florida International Air Show is happening in Punta Gorda.
